"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
1 Peter 4:10-11 (NIV)

Saturday, May 23: Last eye fitting and last fabrication...

Saturday, we switched gears back to fabrication to finish up the last of the prostheses for fitting the remaining people from Choma on Monday. The only people left to see were Maureen, Ackson, Kin and Harrison.

John cutting out a prosthetic socket.

Chris working on a lamination.

Saturdays are always shopping trip day for New Day staff to Choma. Wes drove on Saturday for the shopping trip and brought Osia and Kindalo back to New Day for us to see. We saw Osia for a minor adjustment to her prosthesis, which was working great for her. Kindalo was John's patient for a custom eye fitting. Kindalo was John's last eye patient. There was one more custom eye patient, Harry from the Macha area, who did not come back for fitting. He was contacted, but he never came. Perhaps he'll get his eye next year, just like Joel got his prosthesis a year later. The narrow window we are there makes it so important for people to understand and be able to come back for fitting.

After we saw Osia and Kindalo, Wes gave them a ride back to the main road, and we gave them money for transport back to their homes. While Chris and I finished up fabrication, John and Erin went down to Kid's Club Saturday evening. Kid's Club is sort of like Wednesday night church here in the States. The surrounding village kids come...they do songs, a lesson and have a meal.

Kids all spread out eating their meal.

The meal at Kid's Club is sometimes the biggest meal a village kid may eat during the week.

Erin taking pictures and talking with the kids.

The amazing Blu Tidwell getting more water for all the kids at Kid's Club. He is an amazing man to know and learn from...his heart and dedication to all he does at New Day and for the people of Zambia is awesome! A true man of God.

Erin and John rode on the truck after Kid's Club to take some of the village kids back home.

John climbing on the truck...sure there's room for one more. :)

I climbed the water tower for more pictures. The view towards where our future clinic will be.

Another shot of where the clinic will be built.

Beautiful Zambian sunset :)

On my walk back to The Ark for dinner. Ricky and Niki had dinner with Chris and I, and John and Erin came in late for dinner after returning from the trip to take the village kids back after Kid's Club.
