"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
1 Peter 4:10-11 (NIV)

Saturday, April 20- Sunday, April 21: A familiar face, a new patient and Easter!

Saturday we continued with fabrication and had 2 more prosthetic patients come by the clinic---one a familiar face and one new person.

Luyando and her mother came for a repair to her prosthesis. Here I'm making an adjustment to the prosthetic knee setting.

It was so great to see Luyando and her mother! They live near Lusaka now, so I had wondered if she would come. We talked to them about coming in September and planning to stay in the area so that we're able to make her a new prosthetic socket.

We also had a new patient come on Saturday. This is Kayombo, who is a friend of Margeret's. Margaret is a house mother at New Day. Kayombo is from Lusaka and had his amputation in 2018 due to diabetes. Because he traveled so far and would have to stay in the area while the prosthesis was being made, we told him to come back sooner than the rest of the patients the following week. He was casted on Saturday for the prosthesis and would come back on Wednesday for fitting.

Protashow's wife stopped by the clinic with their new daughter, Euriah. They are such a beautiful family!

In the afternoon, John and Whitney walked down to Kid's Club that happens on Saturday afternoons at New Day. They have play time, bible story/singing time and then eat a meal.

Kids line up by age groups and each get a plate of beans, cabbage and nshima (staple food made from maize).

We really enjoyed having Whitney with us on our trip. She is an awesome photographer---example above.

On Saturday evening Whitney, Caro and I climbed the water tower for some sunset pictures.

Always a beautiful sunset view from the water tower.

On Sunday morning, we took pretty Easter pictures :) Here's the gals on team PPIHN....we should have taken a group photo but didn't think about it.

John's Easter photo (and new head shot for the website)

 Our walk to church.

 Beautiful view by the church.

Easter morning worship was wonderful! I especially love the singing.

On Sunday afternoon, we decided we were at a good enough place on our fabrication to take the afternoon off. We helped hide Easter eggs for the New Day kids' egg hunt and then walked to the river before a Easter dinner at the Ark (guesthouse) with the American staff at New Day.

Papa Wes leading the kids down after we hid all the Easter eggs.

The kids went in age groups to find eggs. Here's the littlest kiddos who had someone to help them as they found their eggs.

After the Easter egg hunt, the 4 of us went for a walk to the river. I always love doing a walk to the river during our trips. Such beautiful scenery.

We used the timer feature on Whitney's camera for a group photo once we got to the river. You can see behind us a nearly dry riverbed. There's been a drought this year and now rainy season is over. Maize crops were bad this year, which is this region's staple food.

More sunset views on our walk back to the Ark for dinner.

We really enjoyed our much needed day of rest on Easter Sunday. We were looking to the week ahead of finishing up fabrication and seeing all the patients back for fittings.

Next post: Monday, April 22- Tuesday, April 23: Fabrication and even more new patients
